Transforming the public health workforce through training, capacity building, and direct placement of professionals

Workforce Pathways for the Public’s Health, managed by PHI Center for Health Leadership & Impact (CHLI), creates a more equitable public health workforce. We offer internships, employment, service year, and research opportunities for current and future public health professionals through partnerships with AmeriCorps, governmental public health departments, and schools and programs of public health.

Join PHI Center for Health Leadership & Impact in conversation with public health experts from diverse backgrounds. Our panel will explain their unique paths into public health, and give in-depth descriptions of their professional experience. You will gain insight into exciting roles within public health and hear expert advice on how you can get there too!

Exploring career paths and raising awareness of opportunities

We help students, recent graduates, and prospective AmeriCorps service members learn about public health career paths and opportunities through:

  • Online info sessions that raise awareness of career opportunities within public health

  • Posting job opportunities with local health departments and community-based organizations in need of professionals

  • Linking public health and adjacent fields like public policy, data science, and more

  • Demystifying the hiring process and what it’s like to work in public health

 

Launching a career in public health and gaining experience

We help recent graduates, graduate students, and AmeriCorps service members build real world experience and gain valuable skills working in public health by offering:

  • A residency program for recent graduates in public health or a related field

  • AmeriCorps service year placements within local California communities

  • Direct placement of professionals within local health departments

 

Investing in the existing workforce and building capacity

We help public health professionals, health departments, and community-based organizations build their capacity and ability to create equitable outcomes through:

  • Training on health equity, trauma-informed practice, coalition building, and more

  • Comprehensive needs assessments to measure staff core competencies

  • Technical assistance and organizational development to align vision, roles, and impact

  • Relevant resources and events that highlight best practices and current issues in public health

  • Direct placement of professionals within local health departments

  • Accreditation and continuing education offerings
