James Allen Crouch, MPH
Jim Crouch served as the Executive Director of the California Rural Indian Health Board Inc. (CRIHB) an Indian Self Determination Act contractor based in Sacramento California for 26 years, retiring in December of 2013 with the title of Senior Advisor.
During his tenure, CRIHB evolved into a multi-service organization designed to facilitate the development of Tribal Health Programs in California. Areas of focus include public health programming, health services development, compliance, leadership development, health services research, epidemiology, policy analysis and advocacy.
He served for nine years on the founding board of The California Endowment, California’s largest health foundation. He also helped found the California Pan-Ethnic Health Network, a health policy and advocacy organization, where he was board chair for a decade. He helped establish and served on the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services Tribal-Technical Advisory group, representing California Tribal interests from 2004 to 2013.
In 2012 he was awarded the National Indian Health Board’s highest honor: the Jake White Crow Award. Jim is a member of the Cherokee Nation and was a delegate from California to the Cherokee Nation Constitutional Convention in 1999. He holds a Master of Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley and a bachelor’s degree from the American University in Washington, D.C.
