Sabrina Park, FACES for the Future Coalition

Sabrina Park serves with FACES for the Future Coalition which was formed to support underserved high school students and diversify the healthcare field. The FACES program model has four core components: health career training and work-based learning, academic support, wellness services, and youth leadership development. Many FACES students join the FACES Public Health Youth Corps and serve as peer vaccine and Narcan educators for their community.

Sabrina Park is an AmeriCorps VISTA member serving with FACES for the Future Coalition. She helps with program planning and evaluation, curriculum development, and alumni engagement at the coalition. Sabrina played a crucial role in planning the 2023 Bright Young Minds Conference. The conference, hosted in partnership with Alameda County Behavioral Health, aims to expose high school students to the mental and behavioral health field. Students who participated learned about the signs, symptoms, and self-help strategies for mental health challenges, attend a workshop on trauma-informed practice, and meet with mental and behavioral health professionals.

The conference was a huge success; 96 students from three different high schools in Alameda County participated. After the conference, 83% of students expressed more interest in pursuing a career in the mental and behavioral health field. FACES and ACBH will continue their partnership, and Sabrina will help lead the planning and coordination for the 2024 BYM conference.

Sabrina will finish her service in April 2024.
