Christina Zambrano and Kubo Vue - FACES For The Future Coalition Sacramento
VISTA Volunteers Kubo Vue, who serves with FACES Sacramento, and Cristina Zambrano, who serves with FACES Hayward, recently collaborated to develop and present an Introduction to Epidemiology workshop. The workshop provided an opportunity for high school students to explore careers in public health and learn more about epidemiologists and the important role they play in disease prevention.
During the workshop, students participated in an interactive scenario where they analyzed patterns, identified possible sources, and determined the cause of a food poisoning outbreak. This was an engaging way for students to connect to the hands-on work that epidemiologists do when it comes to the ways they investigate patterns in public health. Cristina also shared her experience and expertise on the topic as she's been accepted into a master's in public health program for epidemiology and biostatistics!
Both members serve with FACES of the Future Coalition, which provides academic support, mentoring, and youth leadership development opportunities to support students in learning about various health careers and connecting to resources to support their next steps. If you are working with youth and would like more insight on the process and experience, you can reach out to Cristina (czambrano@phi.org) or Kubo (kvue@phi.org).
