Colyn Heimerman, OD Free Marin Coalition
Colyn Heimerman is an AmeriCorps VISTA serving with OD Free Marin Coalition. As a VISTA, Colyn serves as the Naloxone Outreach Coordinator for the coalition. In this capacity, he coordinates Narcan distribution events, tracks Narcan distribution, and provides Narcan trainings to educators, nonprofit personnel, and other members of the community. Some past projects he has worked on include distributing Narcan at San Rafael’s Farmers Market, creating a 6-minute Narcan training video for their website, and collaborating with the Marin Youth Commission to increase Narcan access for high schoolers. One recent project that Colyn has worked on is creating a monthly Narcan administration training for any resident of Marin County to attend in person. The first training occurred on March 7th, and the next one will be held on April 4th. For each training, he educates attendees on opioids (including fentanyl), what Narcan is, how to administer it, and allocates time for questions. It was a great opportunity for Colyn to connect with the community, and to not only present, but to also have an open discussion with them. OD Free Marin will continue to increase access and awareness of Narcan in the community through similar efforts. Colyn’s time serving as an AmeriCorps Vista has impelled him to continue a career in public health that promotes the overall health and well-being of the community.
Colyn finished his service in August 2023. He has since enrolled in an MPH and is continuing to serve with OD Free Marin as a graduate student intern.
